So this community has been mostly dead- except for a couple of spam posts recently (shame on you, spambots!)- but I wanted to come post this here in case there's anyone still paying attention.

If you live in Seattle, you're well aware that we got dumped with snow this week- an unusually early time of year for snow, let alone a snow storm- so the boys came back with "Coffee & Snow Part 2."

Zia Mohajerjasbi is back directing, and even though Sabzi is currently living in New York, he not only manages to appear in the video, but also makes his rapping debut!!

Check out the video on YouTube.

Wanna download the song? It's up on the Blue Scholars bandcamp page here- complete with instrumental version, original version ("Yellow Snow"), and radio edit ("White Snow"). It'll cost you a buck, so throw a dollar at your scholars at http://bluescholars.bandcamp.com/album/coffee-snow-2.

for those unaware, the seattle area and western washington was recently POUNDED with snow (in a storm we natives have officially coined as "snowpocolypse '08"). there was a block of blue scholars & common market shows scheduled that all had to be canceled and re-scheduled for march.

well, thankfully, the massline boys didn't just sit on their duffs and gruff about their canceled shows- and paychecks. they made the best of it all and made new tracks, and unofficial massline video director zia mohajerjasbi even made music videos to accompany them!

first, the blue scholars made a song called "snow and coffee." enjoy it... it's really smartly written!

then, common market (RA scion, really) made a follow-up to that song with this- "tobacco and snow covered roads." I wish there were a stronger word than "hysterical" to use to describe this, because it's THAT funny!! (but you won't get the jokes until you watch the scholars' vid first... and I guess it helps if you're a washingtonian too, so you can symapthize!)

(not blue scholars, per se, but it gets mentioned anyway- this might as well be considered a general massline media community instead of solely blue scholars from here on out.)

check behind the cut for more pics and the article!Collapse )

(p.s.: if you haven't checked out the new common market video yet, see it here!! we need this video to get as many hits as possible so there can be more common market videos!)

here's a great article from yesterday's NW life section of the seattle times:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/musicnightlife/2008196076_bluescholars23.html

also, for all you seattle peoples, remember that this friday and saturday the guys are playing the showbox at the market with hieroglyphics. tickets are still available but these shows WILL sell out.

and finally, in other massline related news...

if you haven't gotten the new common market album, "tobacco road" yet, what're you waiting for? it promises not to disappoint.
CM's first music video also just premiered on MTVU.com, but it's missing the opening scene which is vital to the video's storyline... if you're interested, you can check it out here.

Blue Scholars join The Legendary Hieroglyphics Combine Fashion & Music On 45 Date, Three Month-Long "Freshly Dipped Tour"

05.07.2008

(May 7, 2008 - Brooklyn, NY) In celebration of its 10th anniversary as an independent label and hip-hop collective, Hiero Imperium announced details for a massive North American tour that will span from mid-summer into fall, joining with Blue Scholars who have been lighting up the underground coming out of Seattle. As creators of classic music and trailblazers in the entertainment business and technology fields, the Hiero crew and label have grown to represent more than just hip-hop music. Since its inception in the late 70's, hip-hop culture has permeated mainstream consciousness and its influence has infiltrated fashion, sports, and entertainment on a global scale. Combining elements of fashion and music, The Freshly Dipped Tour is a nod to Hiero Imperium's prolific past ten years as indie hip-hop industry leaders as well as to the bright future of Hiero Imperium. The 3-month long tour, which runs from July through October, includes spot dates all across the US, as well as select dates in Canada.

"We are putting this tour together to thank our fans for their years of loyal support, expose them to our new projects including our brand-new lifestyle line, Hiero Jeans (www.hierojeans.com), and to celebrate the ways that hip-hop style has influenced the fashion world," explained Hiero Imperium CEO Tajai Massey.

Joining the tour and building on the trends set by The Hieroglyphics will be Seattle's Blue Scholars, who are hugely popular in the Northwest hip-hop scene and have been breaking out nationally since the release of their 2007 release “Bayani” on MassLine/ Rawkus. Both groups are known for their strong live shows, and represent the best hip-hop the West Coast has to offer. Hiero Imperium will also debut a special, limited edition Freshly Dipped Tour 7” this summer. Available exclusively at the shows, the 7” will include a Hieroglyphics remix of a Blue Scholars track and a Blue Scholars remix of a Hiero track. Also available at the shows will be a selection of Hiero Jeans denim and shirts, and special edition Blue Scholars gear.

The Lineup:

Hieroglyphics: Souls of Mischief (Tajai, A Plus, Phesto, Opio), Casual, Pep Love, and Domino. Opio's new album Vulture's Wisdom, Volume One in stores in July
